Archdiocese of Chicago

History

The 2011 - 2016 Strategic Pastoral Plan: Reflect Christ's Light for the Archdiocese of Chicago was launched in January 2011. Attention was given to the New Evangelization and to teens, young adults and young parents with the goal to draw them into greater participation in the life of parishes and greater appreciation and understanding of the faith handed down to them.

Beginning in July 2011, the first of a four-year series of evangelization, formation and parish vitality initiatives began with the Year of Teens and Young Adults.

The second year focused on educating Catholics on the critical importance of Sunday Mass attendance and encouraging reflection on the Mass to foster a deeper appreciation of the value of the Eucharist.

The third year focus is on fostering deeper connections with parents, particularly when they present their children for sacraments. Home-based guidance for cultivating faith prayer and service will be offered to all parents via the Catholic Parents Chicago website that complements the Year of Strong Catholic Parents website that provides a variety of resources for use in parishes.

“...we have formulated a strategic pastoral plan, not to change what the Lord has given us but to remain faithful to what he has entrusted to us.” Cardinal Francis George
